The Community Games#

Theme: People gather at a sports center to train, compete, and enjoy different games.

Leo was a young athlete who dreamed of joining an Olympic team one day. This weekend, his town held a big sports tournament. A rich local patron and a company sponsor gave money for prizes. Every spectator sat in the huge stadium to watch the open competition. A kind volunteer handed out water bottles to keep everyone cool.

The town center had both an indoor hall and an outdoor park. Inside the warm gym, older players enjoyed quiet games of chess and billiards on green tables. Nearby, people did slow yoga to relax their minds, taking time to stretch their arms carefully so they would not strain any muscles. Others preferred a vigorous workout with heavy weights, while an energetic coach led a quick body movement class. Leo watched them exercise every morning during his own daily training.

Outside, many sports were happening at the same time across the wide grass sprawl. One field was set up for soccer, where players ran fast to kick the ball and score a nice goal. Next to them, teams played volleyball over a tall net, while another group played hockey on the turf. In the corner, players used a heavy bat for cricket, while others went to a nearby green to practice golf. Players with a light racket rushed between badminton and tennis matches. Leo had to toss a coin to start each game and saw the coin flip high in the air.

Suddenly, dark clouds appeared. Leo had to motion with his hand to tell the runners to move onto the paved path. Workers had just repaired a black crack on the road with sticky pitch, which made the ground dangerous. A runner was in a hurry, did not see the wet spot, and began to slip and slide. She had a sudden tumble on the grass, but Leo ran forward to help before she could knock her head.

Luckily, the medical team had a mobile cart to check on her, and she was not hurt. Leo decided to throw a soft mat over the area so no one else would fall. Soon, the rain stopped, and the ice rink opened. Children loved to skate and glide smoothly across the frozen floor, while a poster on the wall invited people to ski in the mountains next winter. On the road outside, a long cycling race began.

At the end of the day, a famous runner arrived to present the trophy. This well-known sports star smiled warmly at the new young champion. Everyone cheered loudly, happy to share their love of sport together.
